Last summer, I acquired a kindle. Upon getting it, I immediately had it engraved with the one thing I find necessary on a mobile reading device. xkcd of a similar idea. A lot of people I know don’t like the idea of getting rid of physical books, but I find it a lot easier to carry around than a normal book, and it’s just as comfortable to read.

I’ve got a bunch of Robert Heinlein’s books on it right now, and have been chewing through those during just about every bit of free time I’ve had lately. His books are some of the most well written and well thought through pieces of literature I have ever read. His mental invention of devices basically includes everything we take for granted in the modern world.

I somehow ended up scheduling classes for 8:00 every day I have school. Waking up every day to get to these classes has proven already to be annoying, but not necessarily hard.

Also, my stats teacher is crazy. We’ve had two classes so far, and the only direct thing that we’ve learned about stats is that it’s the science and art of studying data. Though sort of obvious, apparently she needs to hammer it into everyone who comes into the class. The rest of the classes was her just obsessing about statistics. Pointing out that statisitcs are everywhere, and that no-one had been collecting data till quite recently, because of apparent superstition. 

My class failed the birthday stat. It was great. She was left speechless.

Today is Pi day! March 14, or 3.14.

THE PROBLEM is trying to get back to thinking normally once you’ve spent more than a few hours at a time portal-hopping through this world. You constantly feel like your vision SHOULD be spinning, and almost lose balance existing in a world without portals.

Anyways, this post is a little late, but still epic.

I want one of these. They’re the epitome of religious comedy. It’s not directly offensive, and it shouldn’t be, but it pokes fun at people who carry pocket bibles. If GOD has any direct characteristics, he must have a sense of humor.

At any rate, it seems I tend to poke a lot of fun at religion here on Rideo. It’s not that I have anything against Christianity itself, but I tend not to like ORGANIZED religion as it stands. When a church becomes monetized, and strays from focus on what it should and it annoys me.  As to why I only really pick on Christianity, it’s the only one I tend to know much or really anything about.

Also, as a final note, rounded corners can make any image look good.

I found this image today, when trying to fully define apathy to a friend. It describes apathy as being both not very challenging and requiring very little skill. I disagree. I think apathy is quite hard to fully achieve. Everyone seems to care about something, even if they don’t fully know it. Getting rid of that care, even the tiny little bit that is there in some people takes effort. From what I’ve seen, Apathy should fit right in the middle of this chart.

I tend to fit best in the relaxation section of this when I’m doing something I like, and in the boredom level when I’m not. As a lucid dreamer, I seem to exhaust all of my capacity for “flow” during my sleeping hours, lol. Caring for a challenge just isn’t in my list of priorities; It never has been.

Though not my personal belief, I feel this is the way that our humanity has asserted itself. We exert oppression over all animals we see, all plants we encounter, our own children, and even our better halves(Interpret that however you see fit). And yet, when we see someone who has done the SAME thing as us, but on a larger scale, we label that person as a madman or a tyrant. We’re oppressing the oppressors.

The cycle will continue till everyone realizes that everything and anything is equal. Only when a truckload of gold is equal only to it’s weight and size in granite will we have met a good system. Only when it’s impossible to advance in any way, and everyone’s needs are met will we have a society without oppression.

Why is it that when someone influential uses a word that doesn’t “exist”, they’re coining new words?

Why is it that someone who has a huge vocabulary is considered “smart” when someone who couldn’t care less about remembering more than he needs to communicate is considered “dumb”?

It’s entirely different than what I WAS used to. My little sister never spends more than 2 hours at home, unless she is sleeping. Her new job and her boyfriends house keep her away from here almost all the time, and it seems to actually relive a burden from my parents, as they’ve got free time now. My mother seems the best off of them all, as she no longer has the stress of my sister always asking her for driving/money, and she’s now participating in a workout regiment and a decent diet. Normally I don’t like the idea of diets, but this one seems to be nice as it allows her just about everything in small portions but pure sugars.

Though my mom is probably the best off, my dad is obviously the most content. Content generally equates to boring, but at least he seems to be happy doing it. After work, he spends most of his time golfing(whether weather permits) or reading while listening to the radio in his office. He’s got stacks and stacks of library books laying around, so I think he goes through them quickly now. Also, I got him addicted to Winamp’s SHOUTcast radio a while ack, so he’s got Winamp always open on his computer.

My room, as I think I described in a much earlier blog, is clean, organized, and feels like it’s already been left in the past. Right now, the only “personality” that is shown is that of my computer corner, where I’ve got my netbook hooked up to my old speakers and monitor, as well as my charging media playing device(zune) and my external HDD. I’ve got the netbook exporting to the monitor, with the main desktop showing on the 1280×1024 resolution there, and the netbook using its native 1000×600 to JUST use this blog posting program, because it fits perfectly on this wide of a screen. I’ve got a set of really outdated, but still quite decent, speakers blasting music from my favourite pandora channel, and I feel pretty darn good. I think I know how my dad can be so content with his lifestyle right now.

I now own three of Radioheads albums. I’ve got them all on the computer, but I’d like to eventually own them all on CD. It’s not like they are any more useful, as I rarely use CD’s unless I’m driving in the car, but there is a peace of mind that comes with having them in a physical medium.

Also, as they go, Hail to the Thief is a pretty cool looking CD. Both OK Computer and The Bends are boring blank looking CD’s with the studio’s logo and a list of songs around them, but Hail to the Thief has it’s epic design(shown at top of post) printed onto the CD itself.

So, yeah, chrome now has a working Adblock with easylist. I’m now sporting that as well as a calculator and a notepad on both of my computers. The second two are not really necessary, but they make everything so much easier.

Also, the calculator uses Google’s search converter for most everything, allowing for some epic things.

Somehow, I ended getting one of those superfluous ones for my English class. Teachers that think of themselves as higher beings are annoying. I think she’ll probably be a good teacher, but… the atmosphere is slightly annoying.

Anyways, on a random note, my chemistry teacher is taking something easy, and making it incredibly hard to understand. Electron shell notation is easy, but she’s going into all the background details for it, and spinning it all out of proportion.

The quantum mechanical model uses three quantum numbers (n, l and m_l) to describe an orbital.

n – The principal quantum number (size, energy) – a positive integer

l – the angular momentum quantum number (Shape) – an integer from 0 to n-1

m_l – the magnetic momentum quantum number (orientation) – an integer from –l to +l

So, I’ve been seeing a lot of trains in things lately. In the book that I’m reading, the author/main characters father is a train station manager, and he recounts living in a train station near the border between countries, and in a game I just played, LoZ: Spirit Tracks, the player character is a train engineer.

Anyways, I got to thinking. What would have happened if the Catholic Church had deemed the steam engine holy?

The world would be an incredibly different place. First, large steam engine based vehicles, such as trains, would be counted as vehicles of god, and their movement would require a priest on board. This serves two purposes, it makes people less likely to believe that the trains will crash, and it would bring the priests to many people and places. This follows easily from the general idea of sending missionaries out to attempt to convert other people.

Second, the world wouldn’t have been so quick to phase steam engines out of service. Steam itself is a clean resource, and although most early ways of “creating” it cause the emission of carbon and other greenhouse substances(IE:Burning wood), it can be created in other more advanced ways.

For example, Nuclear Power Plants use the heat from their reactions to heat water into steam and then use that steam to turn turbines to generate electricity.

With a few(Anywhere from 50-200) more years of the steam engine being used as the MAIN source of transportation, instead of petrol burning vehicles, we would have refined the technology into a much refined sort of technology than we have now.

As a guess, I’d say that “personal” transportation would work more to the effect of small steam powered bikes, with larger transportation being done by public transportation in the form of trains within and between cities.

After a while,  cities would become taller, with population density rising, taking as much advantage of the steam within their cities for electrical power and kinetic movement within the city. Steel would be used less for vehicles, and more for building and managing steam.

All the while, the Church would continue to grow, instead of shrinking. With their control over steam power, they would get a sort of assumed control over the rail lines, and the boundaries of the church would be set to wherever is connected by those rail lines. They wouldn’t be able to shrink, and would just keep expanding.

To use the railroads, people would have to acknowledge the church, and so many places and people would convert solely for the use of their holy engine.

At around “modern” times in this alternate timeline, I can see trains being pulled my massive nuclear power plants, churning out more steam than any coal burning furnace every could possibly produce. Trains that didn’t pull large loads, such as small passenger trains within cities, would be smaller, enclosed engines, using insulated bodies to hold the heat more efficiently. They could use electric power through the rail lines to heat their metal through magnetic induction and therefore not release any sort of exhaust other than water, which they could even get rid of by fully recycling their steam systems. This electricity could be generated through a plethora of systems, including the earlier mentioned nuclear power, or even solar.

Imagine, an age of steam and brass leading directly into an age of Green Power. Coal burning could turn directly into solar and nuclear power, all quickly and efficiently. The change would not even be noticed by the average citizen, and could be done within 5 to 10 years. Instead of having to change out 600,000,000(1997 stat) cars from petroleum based fuel to electric and hydrogen fuel, you would change out a few aging locomotives (Probably somewhere around a few hundred thousand) that would already have been phased out by more efficient ones, and the major production in cities of electricity and steam from coal and oil burning plants to solar panels and nuclear power plants.

All of this, theoretically brought upon by one of the largest cults in the world endorsing a specific new technology instead of ignoring it.

Anyways, just this idea is cool. And typing this was much much more interesting than crunching numbers in my chemistry class. From a simple idea, I wrote a 750 word blog post.

ALL they have to put up with is some crappy christmas music(Even us who celebrate Christmas don’t like it) and a few people politely saying “Merry Christmas”. I completely give up on my Day: system. Its too boring to try and find a post EVERY day, and I just can’t keep up with it. I still should be posting a few every week, but I just can’t do one every day.

Anyways, I got a wave invite from a friend the other day, and so have been using wave a lot lately. In total, my friends and I have posted 1125 posts to waves that I have been a part of. 758 of those have been in waves back and forth between one friend and I. Wave is like an instant messenger conversation, but so much more useful.

The ability to send image and files, as well as to be able to read someone’s post as they type makes it incredibly efficient. It also makes it easy to poke fun at their mistakes as they correct them.

My friends and I have started working on getting a D&D game going within wave, partially to test out wave, and partially to actually play a game of D&D.

We found a dice “app” for wave, which actually is a bot that you add to the conversation, which takes someone’s typing of XdY and calculates it out, then places the result right after the XdY. It then colours the result in yellow, and the roll in grey, and if you edit either of them afterwards, it highlights it all in red, to show that it has been tampered with.

Anyways, Ramen is actually good when not overcooked. I was always used to slimy ramen at home, so i never ate it. Now, making it with water heated in the microwave, it tastes pretty good.

I didn’t have a fork or spoon or anything, so I ate my first ramen thing here with a pair of needle-nose pliers. Since, I managed to get my hand on a set of chopsticks from the dining hall, and have been eating it with that.

So, today I noticed that Rideo has passed the 2,000 view mark. It may not be much, in comparison to the bigger blogs, but its quite a lot to me. Also, on a slightly related note, my deviantArt account, as a write this, has 2,006 pageveiws. My deviantArt account is over 3 years old, and this one is… just slightly over a year old. I had a calculus test today. It was mildly easier than I had expected, but still was tough.

And then we went into a normal game. I unintentionally started to pick him off. Though I had about half the amount of kills by the time i left, almost half of my 30 kills were him. I ran around as a scout for most of the game, taking pot shots at people, and using the close range abilities of the scout shotgun to get a few kills. After that, I went spy. Spies are fun, in that pretty much a direct hit from any class will kill you. Dorman was a sniper or heavy for most of the game, and i would sneak up, most of the time disguised under his name, and kill him. It was brilliant. No-one thinks to double check a sniper running up to the sniper spot. I’d clear out the sniper roost for a minute, leave for a while, and then come back to a full nest of juicy backs to stab.

Also, the new American McGee’s Alice game looks epic.

The small netbook here is mine. The large one is Semper Verus’ gaming laptop. I’m running XP, and he’s running Ubuntu with a heavily modified skin.

I linux ubuntu. I linux ubuntu because it’s actually very user friendly, the community is incredibly helpful and friendly even when you don’t actually talk to them (for instance, my case). They’ll tell you what you need to know generally, and almost always you get a response. Ubuntu itself is sleek and clean, has 25,000+ free pieces of software built into a program that will get them off the internet and install them for you (a la "Add/Remove" or my favorite "Synaptic Package Manager"). It’s clean, safe (all operating systems can get viruses, but it is FAR less likely on ubuntu or linux in general), and productive when you need it to be.

Semper Verus is one of my old friends, now reawakened from a long chronic Mike Jones Syndrome. Anyways, Mr. Dorman is no doubt passed out at a Halloween party right now. His quoteing may have to wait for a while.

So fun, so tiny, so cute. This is a brilliant computer. I can type ALMOST like normal on it, but it takes a slightly different hand position than I’m used to.
The touchpad is incredibly annoying, so much so that I’m going to have to get a wireless mouse to bring with it.
I’ve got most of the bloatware uninstalled already, which is nice.

I had my dad charge it last night, so I’d be able to use it for the car ride home, they wouldn’t bring the car that I’m on the insurance on, because my sister has it… >_>

It came with Google desktop installed. Google desktop is fun, but in a netbook, it probably isn’t a good idea. Bloatware is bloatware. I don’t want to tax my 1 gig of ram too much.

I’m uninstalling the 60 day free trial of office right now… I absolutely hate free trials, and office 2007 takes up too much power for a netbook.

Anyways, this netbook came pre-installed with Microsoft works. I didn’t know they still made that, since office is the main product.

I’ve been playing the Discworld Mud, as I have been a lot lately.

So, the game uses a bunch of random programming within itself. You can script and code your own aliases to make life easier, and even put simple variables into your description.

When I wear a mask, or whatnot, my character description shows the following, with the item name of whatever it is I’m wearing showing through.

Tiny gnome eyes peer at you through a black and white harlequin mask.

When I’m not wearing the mask, it shows the following instead.

In the spot where his face would be, there is a hole containing a small gnome sitting in an ornate dark purple chair.

Today, I’m going to do something which i terribly dislike, and make you click a link to read my post. I’m doing this mainly because I’m posting about something that not everyone wants to see. You can read the title of the article to figure out what I mean.

While browsing this section, though it wasn’t my original intention, I ended up running into many many nudes. Nudity doesn’t bother me, of either sex, at least not by itself. Its really the composition of the image that gives it meaning, good or bad.

Artistic nudity is beautiful, nudity for just pornographic sake is ugly. One image i found in particular, though barely containing nudity, was pornographic, and had no artistic value. There was no flow in the image, it wasn’t clean enough or even grunge enough to fit into a niche, and the girl was chained up while being molested by another girl… Why the hell do people make images like this? WHY? (On another note, this image has been deleted from deviantArt.)

Many of these photographers post multiple images in sets. They use the same model or backdrop and change small things every time. One of these photographers that I noticed last night was posting a set of a lanky girl, with orange stripes painted on her. Because I was browsing from the newest on, I passed over most of the set while browsing. The largest of the three images I’ve added below caught my attention. This image has style. It has flow, it has emotion. The image has artistic value.

The rest of the set… I couldn’t dislike more. The image on the left, and the one in the middle, they don’t really have anything going for them artistically… They’re just soft-core porn…

The below images are from a german woman who really knows how to use nudity artistically. She’s got a good 10 pages of nude images, and yet none of them are sexual at all. Seriously, in browsing her gallery, the image of her with the camear I’ve got linked below exudes more sex than any of her nudes.

First Off, I have to say, my browser skin is epic.

Second off, the article shown in the screenshot is perfectly right, except for the part about multitasking. I multitask extensively. I’ve always got multiple tabs open in firefox, and many many windows else open. I’ve got music playing, a game playing, firefox open with 7 tabs, chrome open with 3 tabs, 3 msn windows, notepad, photo viewer, and two explorer windows open now.

I need to get a quad core processor… >_> My pentium 4 works, but just isn’t good enough for me to multitask the way I want to. I need at least twice as many windows open as I’ve got to feel satisfied.

People have no friendliness for those using linux. They have no idea of how the programs are different. I got marked down because my computer didn’t have MICROSOFT FLIPPIN OFFICE, and used open office instead.

Open office math has no options for setting the x-axis of a graph to scale, and just evenly spaces the given data. Its kind of annoying, but on my laptop, I have ubuntu. Silly silly ubuntu.

pain. I’ve got my background set as a dvorak keyboard, and not looking
at it is hard.

My chem teacher got the swine flu today. Yay.

I’ve got less than half an hour to perfect typing like this before
class. I’m graduating from the keyboard on the desktop now. Its
surprisingly easy to learn something when you put your mind to it.

Vertical Wallpapers: They’re weird, but quite cool if you can use them.

Printing here at OIT is a nightmare. If you’re at a normal fixed computer, you have to use the browser to access the printer list, and then find the printer closest to you, download the driver, and only then can you print.

In the library, they use a secure printing method, so you can print without having to go through the above method, but you have to go to the printer, and input a password directly to the printer to get it to push out your paper.

I miss having my own printer, but the last one I had corrupted it’s inks too quickly. I also miss the built in scanner. I want to get one of those small scanners that move the paper rather than the scanbar. Also, it would be epic to have a laptop with a built in printer. You wouldn’t need anything bulky for a black and white printer that only does a single piece of paper at a time.

Chemistry is too easy. Metrics are too easy. They also are so easy, I remember their conversions, but don’t remember that I remember. I kept fretting during my quiz that I had them wrong, but afterwards checked a conversion chart, and had put them down pefectly. u(mu) is x10^-6, n is x10^-9 and p is x10^-12.

I tried the schools “cafeteria” food here, and it’s pretty decent, and cheap. I was talking with my girlfriend, who is going to UofO, and the meal plans are completely different up there. Where OIT’s plan is counted by “Points” which equal cents, the UofO “Points” are roughly dollars. As I’ve got the smallest meal plan, I’ve got about $2.50 cents a day, which will get me a main meal for EVERY meal of the day. I can get 3 servings of scrambled eggs for 45 points, a corn dog(A hell of a lot better quality corn dog than i was expecting) for 40 points, and a piece of pizza for 70 points. Giving myself about 250 points a day, that leaves me with 95 points to spend on extras for my meals. I can get a 22 ounce can of Arizona tea for 75 points, and a doughnut for 10 points.

It seems people HATE the pass between Klamath Falls and Medford with a passion. I’ve had my entire scout troop, and even my family flake out this weekend, because of a chance of snow. My parents, at least, were on the road before they turned around, so i can’t blame them. But a SCOUT TROOP being afraid of a little snow? I cannot believe that.

I brought 2 sweatshirts, a jacket, and a windbreaker with me here to OIT, knowing it gets quite cold. I’ve yet to use ANY of them. We had a little snow Sunday morning, but it wasn’t sticking, and it ended about an hour after I woke up.

I’ve been watching a lot of movies the last few days. There isn’t much to do after everyone goes home from classes, so the campus ends up being really dead. I’m getting really good at watching a 2 and a half hour movie in 10 minutes. I can get the entire gist of the movie, and sample all the acting while jumping ahead 20 seconds at a time.

Every once in a while, i land on a movie that gets interesting enough that I go back to the beginning and watch it fully. So far, I’ve only landed on a few of these movies. One of them was terrible in its own right, but it was funny enough for me to sit and watch it. That movie was “Big Bad Wolf” which was a terrible b-rate horror movie about a werewolf that jests while he kills his victims. The other ones were Juno, A lot Like Love, and Fantastic Four: Rise of the silver surfer.

Juno was by far the best of the movies that I watched in the last few days. I’m attaching a chatlog of my reactions to the movie. I lost the responses of the other people to the first half of my replies, but I’ve still got the second half. I put it into a page, right below.

My classes so far are easy… Easier than I’ve ever expected college to be. The chemistry curriculum is definitely a step below what I took in high school, and as I took AP Calculus, my calculus class is just review and mastery of a subject I already know.

I finished the homework for the entire week in my Writing class during my lunch hour today, consisting of a simple getting to know worksheet, and a 2-5 page memo. I’ve yet to find a printer to produce a hard copy of the memo, which is due Friday, but I can figure that out tomorrow.

So, the dorm halls all have a “theme” here at oit. They’re decorated according to that theme by the Residence Hall Advisors, Aka Civil Protection. I got lucky and got the hall decorated to super heroes, instead of the terrible one the guys across the building got: Disney.

In honor of that theme, I got this poster, and put it on my door. Behold, the greatest Anti-Hero of all time. THE COMEDIAN.

I ended up playing a few hours of KOTOR II, as I haven’t played it yet. Still haven’t gotten past the initial level, though.

We had to sit through this terrible and terribly long mandatory meeting about the residence hall today. Woopie for an hour and a half of unskilled speakers. Afterwards, though, we had a spaghetti dinner, which tasted great. They even served free desert: Haagen Das ice cream bars.

We had a speaker about relationships today. He had some interesting things to say, but was able to keep the entire audience laughing at the same time. He also seemed to think that all college relationships were about sex, which got kind of annoying. During every section of his speech, he made sure to include gays and lesbians, even if he didn’t know how to apply his knowledge to that part of their specific attitudes.

Mr. Dorman seems to be offline, so I cannot collect random shit from him as of right now.

So, they don’t actually turn on our internets till sunday night, when school starts… I’ve just been bumming off of the wireless terminals in the lobbies, I can get a weak signal on my laptop from my room, but it cuts off frequently. I’m in the third floor lobby, typing this up right now. It’s got a great view of the Klamath lake, so its quite nice to sit in here and work. I wonder how busy it will be when school starts.

So far, I’ve used up a serving of applesauce, two granola bars, a bagel, and about a tablespoon of peanut butter. I’m going to save my popcorn for later, and hopefully get my parents to buy me some really cheap ramen or cup-O-soup next time they go to costco. They’ve got a week at a local resort in October from some vacation points they spent, so I should be able to grab it from them then…

The OIT campus is quite funny. Its obviously been built over the course of many years, and is even under construction right now. There are many different styles used in the buildings, but many of them have attempted to carry over architectural similarities from other buildings. There is one piece in particular that makes me laugh. It’s a beam, that stretches out in all 4 sides, to make a sort of x shape. This beam shows up in many buildings, and even is integrated into the walls of the gym/pool building.

To come to the title of this post, there is a vending machine in this lobby, in about the style of the snack machines, is set up for drinks. IT has an arm that reaches out and picks up the individual drinks, and sets it down in the pickup box. I keep watching it, as I’m typing from the third floor lobby. I cant help but wonder why it must be so specialized.

Above is a picture of a lake during my 50 miler this summer, it seems that I haven’t posted it yet. Both pictures are taken from the same point, at the same time of day. The difference in lighting just because of camera angle is great.

Today, I checked into my dorm room, played Ultimate Frisbee in the dark with glowsticks, and attempted to get wireless internet on my computers. I need to go buy an Ethernet cord tomorrow, so i can get reliable and faster internet on my desktop. OIT limits all students to 5GB of bandwidth a week… I can use that easily in a day at home…

Luckily, I’ve got 15 gigs of music on my hard drive, and 62 gigs of movies(HD movies are fun.). It should be enough to tide me over till i can get home. I’m a few hundred episodes behind on the animes I watched a few years ago… I have an urge to watch more of them, but I cant.

For the past few years, I’ve been using a terrible old CRT monitor(The Philips Magnavox 107S in this article. I cant believe it once sold for $250). This summer, I decided to buy a flat screen monitor so I could take my desktop to college with me, where I already know the desks are quite a bit too small to be able to fit a CRT and still use it as a desk. After a frustrating time trying to get a monitor from someone on craigslist, I found a 23in Acer widescreen acer monitor. This thing is dreamy, the colour is perfect, the contrast is perfect, and it plays beautiful HD video. It also has built in speakers, which may be low quality, but get the job done, and don’t take up any additional space, which I know will be at a premium soon. 1920×1080 is so much larger a space to work with than 1280×1024.

  Over the past few months, I have had a great time. I graduated from high school, went to the Scout camp Meriwether, and lately have just been listening to music and playing games.

Personally, I cant wait for college, I’m going to be going to Oregon Institute of Technology, or OIT for short. I’m going to study Civil Engineering, as I love physics, math, and designing things.

Since I haven’t posted any pictures in quite a while, I will post all the good photos I have. The only one of these that I am in is two columns down, in the shiny velvet tux. I can give details about just about all of these, so if you want them, please feel free to give a comment asking about it.

I was asked for a copy of my “Lulz and Slander” wallpaper without the words. I have put up a few wallpapers I made in class, along with the original without text. The effect of grunge on a desktop is funny.

With statements like the title of this post, I must lol at Dungeons and Dragons even more. I have been watching a group of noobs at school play DnD during their off period. During one adventure, the DM decided to let them live with some sort of divine protection after they blew up themselves in a methane cavern by lighting a fire spell. Their rogue is by far the most trustworthy of the party, and their druid has no clue about anything nature related… The DM had to give the group hints before he realized that he needed to intervene with his ability to tie in with nature. Also, clerics, light spells, and owls do not mix.

I installed Adobe Master Collection CS4 the other day. Everything works just great so far, except for Photoshop CS4, it lags on my computer no matter what I do. I am tempted to install an old version like CS2 or Elements so that I can use Photoshop efficiently.

There is just something epic about the radio at Pandora. Generally, when I listen to music, I pop an album into my music player, and let it shuffle songs from that single album till I get bored, 5 or so hours of listening to it later… With Pandora, I put in a set of artists I like, and I get diverse, but similar music back. With my “station”, Rideo, Radio, Run, I asked it to play songs from the base of Pink Floyd, Radiohead, The Beatles, and The Pillows. This selection is quite diverse, but keeps the music all close to the alternative rock genre.

This last weekend was a 3 day weekend. With my family, my girlfriend, and my sisters psuedo-boyfriend, we went to the Oregon coast. Maplestory is quite fun, but its getting slightly annoying… Too much grinding, but the grinding is so much fun… I can’t really tell which way I actually am leaning on this right now… I think its a good game, but I don’t know whether I want to continue playing.

Today, I looked over at my alarm clock at about 5:00 in the afternoon. The clock is an hour fast because of daylight savings time, so it read 5:55 at a time that was 5 minutes till 5 o’clock.

I could probably find more number coincidences, but I don’t feel like looking for any more.

Also, Here is a Cactuar. I like Cactuars, and I even modified a song for them a long time ago.

It is easy to forget how much we take calculators for granted, and this book shows how life was like before we had them to do all the dirty memorization and the works for us. Its got tables and tables of raw data about sine values, circumferences, logs, squares, reciprocals… Everything you can imagine, and not be able to work out quickly in your head.

With a 100 foot wide road, there are 12.1 acres of surface area in a mile of road. The reciprocal (multiplicative opposite) of 666 is .001501502. A length of pipe with a diameter of 1 foot, and a length of 1 foot, has an area of .7854 cub ft. Hehe, random data.

Actually, the copy I have is almost identical to the one referenced in this article, except for the fact that mine is in better condition, and doesn’t have the handwritten notes at the back. Mine still has all of its pages, but the binding is still slightly flaking.

I have fun with my physics notes sometimes. I am going to digitalize some more of them sometime later… I make a lot of great little doodles in the margin of my notes in all classes, but the physics ones seem to be the most… imaginative.

Not in this place, at least…

The Internet is too vast for a place like this to get attention. The blog of a simple high school student will probably never be noticed, but its nice to just have it here in case it somehow does get noticed.

Spore: Build A Species Workshop

Spore, a relatively new game released by MAXIS, is both a technological achievement, and a fun game. Though it isn’t as good as was expected, it still manages to create a game that will provide many hours of entertainment and should be at least tried by most gamers.

The game doesn’t center on any sort of game genre, but attempts to bring in many types of games into one. The player starts out controlling a cell, and slowly evolves until the player gets their creature to blast off into space. This is done by using 5 different types of gameplay, from a flOw-like cell stage to a Real Time Strategy civilization stage.

The game allows you to create your own creatures using an in-game editor, and then it uses procedural generation to make those creatures move and live, no matter how weird you create them. There is also a procedural music creator that generates the background music based on the parts you put on your creature. A national anthem generator allows you to make your own music once you get to the civilization stage of the game.

The game sells for about $50 to $80, depending on whether you get the original or the special edition, named the “Galactic Edition.” Also, there is a DS version called “spore creatures” and a cell-phone/iPhone version called “Spore Origins.” The former being a stylized version of the creature stage, and the latter being a copy as the cell stage.

Reviews are greatly mixed. It got 2,567 one star reviews on amazon.com, (Mainly for digital rights management issues with the game.) but pulled off a decent 85 out of 100 on Metacritic.com.

Personally, I love this game. I like how open ended the space stage of the game is, and the creation of creatures is quite fun.

Well, today, I ended up doing just that…

I was vacuuming my room, as it was dirty. I passed the vacuum too close to the fan, and the fan went into my hand like a saw… Gashed it up real good.

I went downstairs to go get some Band-Aids, and after talking to my mom, I fainted from the shock of the fan hitting the bone of my hand. I remember starting to turn around to go upstars… When I woke up, there was screaming, and a huge hole in the wall behind me, and I couldn’t feel any pain left.

I am really starting to wonder what my pain tolerance actually is. I don’t think it was the pain that I fainted from, but the sight of the gash, or the feeling of vibrating bone…

On a totally unrelated note, I transferred over a good amount of the music to my desktop, which now has nothing but Chrome, a single indie game, and 7 gigs of music. I think I’m just going to use it like a big stationary iPod, with a subwoofer.  ^_^

I keep starting blogs, but I never actually can get around to finish them. I’ve got a nice juicy spore review I did for school, I am going to post it once I get it to this computer.

I ended up playing a space rpg/shooter game for most of the time… I need to find a good game that doesn’t get old quickly… or… an alternative to the computer that I can actually stick to…

For Digital Media, we had to make a project consisting of three layers. A shadow layer, a background layer, and a layer of 18 1″x1″ squares, colorized to a palate of our choosing. I originally just chose colors from a picture of the Joker, but eventually, I felt I had to have him in the picture. The Joker was by far the best character in the new batman movie.

There is a Facebook group dedicated to the late Heath Ledger.

Pink Floyd keyboard player and founder member Richard Wright has died aged 65 from cancer.

Wright appeared on the group’s first album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, in 1967 alongside lead guitarist Syd Barrett, Roger Waters and Nick Mason.

Dave Gilmour joined the band at the start of 1968 while Barrett left the group shortly afterwards.

Gilmour said: “He was such a lovely, gentle, genuine man and will be missed terribly by so many who loved him.”

Ive been messing with my computer skin, as I hate the look of vista…

I found this shell replacement, and although it is a little plain, it looks really good, and is quite easy to use. And with the addition of vista sidebar gadgets, I have all the information I need.

I went and registered my own blog, it will be for more personal uses, but I’ll still post some stuff here as well.

No really, the airlines are too paranoid for their own good.

You CAN carry a normal size empty water bottle.
You CAN carry the same amount of water, in multiple 3oz bottles, in a single ziplock bag.
You CAN’T carry a full water bottle…

Honestly, if someone is going to be carrying explosive chemicals, they are probably going to be in individual parts anyway, and if someone is carrying a water bottle, its going to be water or something only slightly more sinister, sugar water. Watch out airmen, I am going to rot your teeth out!

Psh… At least just about everything else that isn’t sharp, super pressurized, or directly explosive is allowed on the plane. I just hope they don’t yell at me to put my DS or Zune away… That would be a fun killer…

Oh, and they don’t mind if your checked baggage is full of guns and swords, as long as they don’t contain anything more explosive than bullets, and are not in your carry on… I want to fill a second bag full of knives, and bring it with, just for lulz. How many knives does it take to equal 70 lbs?

6 days in sunny Hawaii? What do I need other than a few changes of clothes, my swimsuit, a book, and my electronics? I am not camping, so most of my normal packed gear has to be removed…

I need to go to a real collee dangit >:O

Stupid statement jests… I need to find something better to joke about…

I have been trying to find a good free mmo… I have tried everything… I don’t have the patience for 99% of the ones out there, and the only game that has stuck me as lasting fun is pay2play… Tabula Rasa… What does it take for these people to make games that are fun?

Also, crafting systems? Whats the deal with those? No-one can create them well. It always is better just to sell the raw resources than to craft things yourself. In a well built game, it would be a better deal to sell the handiwork’d item, instead of the Raw materials that made them… Even in SWG, by far the best crafting system I have seen so far… Still gets this wrong… You can make many times as much money selling the raw materials than selling the product. When I had my free trial, I was making speeder bikes. The 8000 some resources that I needed to make the craft cost about 4 credits each(were I to buy or sell them), and to sell the speeder, I was only able to get 20,000.

With Tabula Rasas crafting system…(What brought this rant up) You have to have like 10,000 base materials, each costing like 10 credits, to create 100 of the top tier items, costing only 150 credits… (of which you can buy each tier of items in the store, and no EXP is given for crafting, nor is there any reason to do this craft line…)

Also, blueprints… How the hell could they be one use only… Especially for items normally mass produced… You should be able to produce infinite amounts of items with that one blueprint… As long as you have the materials to create those items…

I want a good crafting system…
And a non boring game…
Is that too much to ask?

Being that it was recently my birthday, I got a Wacom Bamboo Fun drawing tablet. It has a functioning area of 5.8 x 3.7. I can use this for photo editing, drawing and painting. If I ever get good enough I’d like to make some kind of webcomic of my own. As you can see it comes with a mouse and a pen. The pen cursor follows the pen 1:1 which takes a little getting used to. So far the mouse is kinda pointless, the G7 I have (you can see a glimpse of it on the left) is far superior.

Overall it’s a pretty cool device and hopefully I’ll get better at art because of it.

I only wish that I can find another good place to get wallpapers…

My birthday is tomorrow.

I need presents, specifically, better internets.
